A Fine unmarked copy with near Fine dustjacket which is not price clipped. xi + 422 pages. 17 illustrations. Professor Chadwick's masterly account of Archbishop Ramsey's life and works, written at the invitation of Ramsey, from Ramsey's personal materials and free access to Lambeth Palace archives. At home he was politically concerned against racialism in Britain, and determined to secure justice and equality for immigrants. Abroad he was a stern opponent of apartheid, whether in South Africa or in Rhodesia. In Parliament he helped to abolish capital punishment and to secure better treatment for homosexuals. In Christendom at large he was leader in a new spirit of brotherhood among the churches, and benefited from the new ecumenical spirit in the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches of Eastern Europe. He comes out of the book as a person of much prayer and rock-like conviction, who in an age of shaken opinion was an anchor of faith and hope among a pessimistic generation. **** A HEAVY VOLUME OF 0.9 KILO UNPACKED WEIGHT WHICH MAY REQUIRE EXTRA SHIPPING COST **** R1.
