by Stewart Hall Holbrook
Price: USD 49.00
Dealer: Alibris, Keller Books via Alibris
Description: Random House 1955 Hardcover Very Good Plus in Good Minus jacket Size: 0x0x0; SCARCE Title in the Landmark series. Hardback book with Dust Jacket. Book itself is in Very Good Plus condition with a tight binding and clean crisp internal pages. The inside text is in Very Good Plus condition and appears to be unread! There is a name written at the top of the dedication page, but no other writing or markings in the book. Outside cloth covers are very nice with very nice corners and edges. There is some "spotting" on the top page ends-shelf wear, but this has no effect on the inside text. Dust Jacket is in Good Minus condition due primarily to some creasing and heavier edge chipping primarily to the outside spine and front cover top and bottom edges. There are some small missing pieces from the outside spine. Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped (195/195) and is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. Book has come from a private collection and this is NOT an ex-library book. This is a scarce and harder to find title in the wonderful Landmark series. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. Davy Crockett was one of the most colorful heroes in American history. Whether hunting bears in Tennessee, serving as an army scout, or defending the rights of Indians as the "Coonskin Congressman", he did everything with a dashing spirit which captured the imagination of the young country. A legend in his own time, Davy Crockett's courageous death at the Alamo adds a fitting climax to the story of a memorable Alamo.
