8. The senses
by Edited by H.B. Barlow and J.D. Mollen
Price: USD 90.00
Dealer: Abebooks, Rareeclectic
Description: ISBN10: 0521244749, ISBN13: 9780521244749, [publisher: Cambridge University Press, Cambridge] Hardcover First Edition First Edition ( 'First published 1982', Cambridge University Press= 'First published, year'). 'Cambridge Texts In The Physiological Sciences, 3, The senses.' This is a fairly rare, perhaps singularly rare, non-library Hardcover for sale on the Internet. In addition it has a very good dust jacket and, as referenced, is the first edition. You can see the blue covers of the book in the photos. They are very clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is bright. The cover edges and corners are in very good shape. There is one tiny dent off the rear top edge. There is a tiny crease at the tip of both the front and rear top corners. The spine ends have the usual crinkling. There is an etched little 'U' off the bottom edge of the rear cover. The page edges look very good. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is solid throughout. I'm not finding any issues between any of the facing pages or between the covers and any of the pages. The white inside covers an end papers look perfectly clean. That's a fair description of the pages. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any soiling on any of the 490 pages. These pages are nicely bright as well. The bumps at the top corners of the covers reverberated just a bit, creating a soft or vague crease, more of a crinkle at many of the top corners, not at all conspicuous. I'm not finding any turn-down corners or placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. The book has a great number of illustrations, drawings, charts, graphs, photographs. They are all in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. It looks quite clean. The spine has a suntan, its original red is now tan, also a light vertical crease just off the top edge which the photo didn't pick up. Looks like there's a small, light scratch off the bottom edge of the rear cover. I don't see any other wear that needs to be called out. The flaps are in very solid condition, no tears. The jacket is not priced or clipped. From the dust jacket: 'This book describes what is known about man's sense organs and the brain mechanisms concerned with sensory analysis. The contributors are all well known in their own fields and have cooperated closely to produce a coherent textbook that is up-to-date, accurate, authoritative and interdisciplinary. One of the editors is a physiologist with a research interest in perception, the other an experimental psychologist with a research interest in physiology. This complementarity is reflected in the text and the medical student will find here more material on cognitive and behavioral aspects of perception than is found in traditional medical textbooks for the same reason the book should recommend us of the students and research workers in behavioral and educational fields. Annotated reference lists and detailed anatomical drawings add to the value of the book.' [pound ridge, NY, U.S.A.] [Publication Year: 1982]
