ISBN10: 0007284748, ISBN13: 9780007284740, [publisher: HarperCollins Publishers, London] Softcover Paperback. An endearing classic of childhood memories of an idyllic midwestern summer from the celebrated author of Farenheit 451. "He stood at the open window in the dark, took a deep breath and exhaled. The street lights, like candles on a black cake, went out.He exhaled again and again and the stars began to vanish.Douglas smiled. He pointed a finger. There, and there. Now over here, and hereYellow squares were cut in the dim morning earth as house lights winked slowly on. A sprinkle of windows came suddenly alight miles off in dawn country.'Everyone yawn. Everyone up.'"In the backwaters of Illinois, Douglas Spaulding's grandfather makes an intoxicating brew from harvested dandelions. Dandelion Wine is a quirky, breathtaking coming-of-age story from one of science fiction's greatest writers. Distilling his experiences into "Rites & Ceremonies" and "Discoveries & Revelations", the young Spaulding wistfully ponders over magical tennis shoes, and machines for every purpose from time travel to happiness and silent travel.Based upon Bradbury's own experiences growing up in Waukegan in the 1920s, Dandelion Wine is a heady mixture of fond memory, forgiveness, magic, the imagination and above all, of summers that seemed to go on forever. An endearing classic of childhood memories of an idyllic midwestern summer ...

ISBN10: 0553277537, ISBN13: 9780553277531, [publisher: Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group Inc, New York] Softcover Paperback. The summer of '28 was a vintage season for a growing boy. A summer of green apple trees, mowed lawns, and new sneakers. Of half-burnt firecrackers, of gathering dandelions, of Grandma's belly-busting dinner. It was a summer of sorrows and marvels and gold-fuzzed bees. A magical, timeless summer in the life of a twelve-year-old boy named Douglas Spaulding-remembered forever by the incomparable Ray Bradbury. The only god living in Green Town, Illinois, that Douglas Spaulding knew of.The facts about John Huff, aged twelve, are simple and soon stated. He could pathfind more trails than any Choctaw or Cherokee since time began.Could leap from the sky like a chimpanzee from a vine.Could live underwater two minutes and slide fifty yards downstream.Could hit baseballs into apple trees, knocking down harvests.Could jump six-foot orchard walls.Ran laughing.Sat easy. Was not a bully. Was kind.Knew the words to all the cowboy songs and would teach you if you asked.Knew the names of all the wild flowers and when the moon would rise or set and when the tides came in or out.He was, in fact, the only god living in the whole of Green Town, Illinois, during the twentieth century that Douglas Spaulding knew of. A summer in the life of a 12 year old boy in 1928 in the hamlet of Green Town, Ill. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our ...

Douglas smiled. He pointed a finger. There, and there. Now over here, and here. Yellow squares were cut in the dim morning earth as house lights winked slowly on. A sprinkle of windows came suddenly alight miles off in dawn country. 'Everyone yawn. Everyone up.'' In the backwaters of Illinois, Douglas Spaulding's grandfather makes an intoxicating brew from harvested dandelions. 'Dandelion Wine' is a quirky, breathtaking coming-of-age story from one of science fiction's greatest writers. Distilling his experiences into 'Rites & Ceremonies' and 'Discoveries & Revelations', the young Spaulding wistfully ponders over magical tennis shoes, and machines for every purpose from time travel to happiness and silent travel. Based upon Bradbury's own experiences growing up in Waukegan in the 1920s, 'Dandelion Wine' is a heady mixture of fond memory, forgiveness, magic, the imagination and above all, of summers that seemed to go on forever. 240 pp. Englisch ...

[publisher: Rupert Hart-Davis, London] Hardcover First Edition A smart first UK edition of this coming of age novel by American writer Ray Bradbury, lacking the original dust wrapper. First UK edition. The first novel of the Green Town Trilogy. A coming of age novel set in the fictional town of Green Town, Illinois, based upon Bradbury's childhood home of Waukegan, Illinois. The novel centers on the routines of small-town American and the simple things, with dandelion wine, as made by the protagonist's grandfather, serving as a metaphor for distilling all of the joys of summer. Written by Ray Douglas Bradbury, an American author and screenwriter considered one of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. In the original burgundy cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark and light spotting to the endpapers. Very Good

Stated First Edition; A Fine book in a Near Fine price clipped dust jacket. SIGNED and inscribed to noted collector Matt Stiller with an illustration in multicolor to the entire front free paper. A beautiful copy of this early Bradbury novel, greatly enhanced by the unique signing/drawing; rare to find the book in this condition, particularly with the personal attention Bradbury took to the signing. This book is in near fine condition with a square tight binding, multi-colored lettering over bright yellow boards, and clean white pages throughout; the book does show a few small tape stains to the signed page. Housed in a very clean and bright near fine dust jacket that has benefitted from some invisible expert restoration and shows only a light soiling to the back panel, else fine. Overall, an excellent copy of a book difficult to find in near fine or better condition, especially with Bradbury's signature. Not remaindered, not ex-library; in a protective Mylar sleeve and will ship well packaged in a sturdy box. Date: 1957. Doubleday US
