ISBN10: 0340898836, ISBN13: 9780340898833, [publisher: Hodder & Stoughton, United Kingdom] Softcover When Rachel was six, in the early 80s, her parents whisked her off from LA to join an ashram in a backwater town in India. They were followers of Meher Baba, best known for the slogan 'Don't worry, be happy'. She was the only foreign child in a 100-mile radius and the ashram was populated by holy madmen and unhinged aging hippies. As if that wasn't enough to contend with, Rachel, the daughter of Jewish Baba-lovers, was bundled off to the Bleeding Heart School, a last vestige of the British Empire staffed by nuns with a penchant for keeping their charges standing in the midday sun until they fainted. Surrounded by adults who were patently mad, Rachel buried herself in comics, tamed the local wildlife and spent a lot of time avoiding her mother. By turns moving, jaw-droppingly strange and very very funny, this is a brilliant memoir of a distinctly odd childhood that lingers in the mind and demands to be recommended to all your friends. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

[publisher: Penguin eBury Press] Hardcover When the word of my love breaks out of its silence and speaks in your hearts, telling you who I really am, you will know that this is the real word you have always been longing to hear' -Meher Baba Known as one of the Perfect Masters, Avatar Meher Baba touched millions of lives and passed away in 1969. Since then, his followers, who were blessed to have had been under his direct care, feel his presence strongly, even until date, and live their lives in complete devotion to him. Now, after more than fifty years after his passing, one of the most read and loved spiritual writers, Ruzbeh N. Bharucha, pieces together what it was to have experienced Baba in person-to have been blessed by him. Through interviews with his followers, Bharucha recreates the life and times of Baba, his deep connection with his Mandali, his miracles, his methods and his teachings. Such is the power of their words that Baba comes alive to readers like he had never been gone. It is a rare collection for those who would like to know more about what it was like to be with the Avatar himself.
