Harry Johnson ''Jack'' Zimmerman (1906-1942), a pioneer of commercial aviation and chief pilot for TWA who had logged over two million miles in the air. An Army flier prior to joining TWA, he also piloted the first Boeing 307 Stratoliner on its inaugural flight in 1940 which established a transcontinental speed record. Million-Miler was originally published in the spring of 1942, a few months before Jack Zimmerman's death, which occurred tragically when his plane crashed into the St. Laurence River and capsized in early November.
