New binding of brown morocco spines and corners, with hand marbled boards, matching endpapers AND matching page edges. Raised bands and bright gilt titles on the spines. A beautiful gift set that looks like it was just puolished. Each plate has its tissue guard. Surprisingly, no foxing, no browning, no stains, no prior owner marks. Each plate, from Gibralter to Sicily and Italy and Greece and Tunisia to Rhodes , has a 3 or 4 page essay by the impressive Rev. Wright. No date, but known to have been published in 1829 -`840. Vol. I is complete with all 73 plates called for in the 'Contents,' though "Great Canal, and Antique Gothic House" [or "Ghent"] is bound in at Vol. II, p. 58, and "The City of Catania and Mount Etna" is bound in near Vol. II, p. 152. Vol. II is lacking pp. 25-32, and pp. 49-56, and also lacks the eight plates that would have been in those two signatures.
