ISBN10: 0908676492, ISBN13: 9780908676491, [publisher: Beckett, Auckland] Hardcover "New Zealand Shipwrecks" was first published in 1936 and, with regular updates following, soon became essential in any collection of nautical books. Each of the updated editions, including this 1990 publication, was revised and enlarged. Entries date back to the earliest recorded wreck of 1795 and include ships lost in through enemy action in two world wars as well as victims of marine hazard. Extensive coverage is given in this edition to the loss in 1968 of the inter-island ferry Wahine and the Russian cruise ship Mikhail Lermontov in 1986, Another interesting entry is for the Green Peace ship Rainbow Warrior, sabotaged in 1985. In total, more than 2200 shipwrecks on or near NZ are recorded. Seventh edition of 1990, 515 pages including two appendices, locatity index and ship name index with unpaginated metric conversion guide at back, frontis features drawings of 10 types of sailing vessel rigs, 139 b/w illustrations, mainly photos with some art depicting early losses. Blue hard covers with gilt spine titles VG+, text block is NF, no inscriptions. Dust jacket is VG+ with dramatic illustration of the listing ferry Wahine at front, two photo to back. A top line copy of this exellent nautical reference work. A heavy book at almost 1.3kgs unpacked; may; require additional postage depending on destination.
