This is such a wonderful book. A profusely illustrated history of children's books in Australia, I defy you to not find inside its covers something you read when you were a kid (because we've all read The Magic Pudding haven't we??? HAVEN'T WE???). Divided into sections that discuss the different types of story (journeys, home life etc.), this is one of those books that will keep you browsing for hours, with it's wealth of information and wonderful reproductions of images (thank God for the Miegunyah Press!). So many memories in here...The Rainbow Serpent, The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek, Where the Forest meets the sea, Dot and the Kangaroo...if you're interested in children's fiction, you must have this book. So wonderfully produced, a real pleasure to have. I've got my own copy, and am letting this one go, even though they are scarce-ish.ix, 261 pages.
