Stefan Zweig ermutigt den Freund und bstätigt ihn immer wieder in seiner Arbeit und seiner Haltung, legt ihm 1916/17 - zur Zeit des 'Jeremias' - im Brief unmittelbares Bekenntnis zur Humanität ab - Paul Zech kann sich Stefan Zweig gegenüber das Leid des Soldaten im Schützengraben von der Seele schreiben und ihm später von der Not seines Schicksals im argentinischen Exil klagen. In dem persönlichen und schriftstellerischen Austausch von Erlebnissen und Erfahrungen treten Weggefährten auf: Else Lasker-Schüler, Rainer Maria Rilke, Richard Dehmel. Paul Zechs Essay 'Stefan Zweig. Eine Gedenkschrift' und seit dem Ersterscheinen nicht wieder gedruckte gegenseitige Würdigungen und Rezensionen machen diesen Band zu einem Dokument der Freundschaft zweier Schriftsteller.
