A second edition copy. Hardcover edition with dust jacket, published by Farrar, Straus, Giroux, 1990. In this book, McPhee examines three infrastructure plans that attempt to control the natural world; the dams and dikes of the Mississippi river, the redirection of lava from the leading fishing industry port of Iceland, and the attempt to contain landslides in the Los Angeles area. This copy shows some foxing spots to the edge of the text block, primarily on the fore edge, the foxing is not extensive or dark though. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped, no marks or tears to the dust jacket, this is not a remainder copy, not a library discard. Nice quality brown cloth covered boards. No writing, no former ownership marks.
