Jill Garnier [1890 – 1966] Jessie Garnier nee Blyth, always known as Jill, came to Newlyn to study at the Forbes school. There she met her future husband (and cousin) Geoffrey Garnier. Both Jill & Geoffrey became central figures in the later Newlyn School. The couple settled in Orchard Cottage, Newlyn, where they each had large studios built in the garden. It was here that Geoffrey worked as an etcher/engraver and producer of aquatints. Jill spent all the time she could painting or designing and create beautiful embroidered pieces but in those less liberated times she had to juggle her art with the demands of looking after children and running a house.
