Book - in Very Good brown boards with an illustrated front board and spine with gilt lettering - some marking to the plain brown back board, the spine has browned and has some wear to the extreme top of it and slight bumping to the extreme bottom of it, slight mark to the front board. Contents, Bookplate of 'Geoffrey S. Garnier' to verso of front endpaper - *See note below - , free front and rear end paper has browned and some scattered browning to some pages otherwise clean and tightly bound. *This is one of a collection of books from the estate of Jill & Geoffrey Garnier of Newlyn. Jill Garnier [1890 – 1966] Jessie Garnier nee Blyth, always known as Jill, came to Newlyn to study at the Forbes school. There she met her future husband (and cousin) Geoffrey Garnier. Both Jill & Geoffrey became central figures in the later Newlyn School. The couple settled in Orchard Cottage, Newlyn, where they each had large studios built in the garden. It was here that Geoffrey worked as an etcher/engraver and producer of aquatints. Jill spent all the time she could painting or designing and create beautiful embroidered pieces but in those less liberated times she had to juggle her art with the demands of looking after children and running a house.
