The destroyer HMS COVENTRY formed part of the British Task Force sent into the South Atlantic in 1982 to re-take the Falkland Islands from invading Argentinean forces. On the 25th May 1982 she was attacked by enemy aircraft and was struck by three 1,000 lb. bombs, two of which exploded inside her hull killing nineteen of her crew and injuring many others. Within minutes COVENTRY capsized but did not sink until the following day. It was the first time since WWII that a British captain and his crew had to abandon ship and take to the cold waters of the Atlantic. In this book her captain gives a highly personal account of the ordeal he and his officers and ratings endured.
