About the Author: During World War II, Henriette Mertz worked as a code-breaker in the U.S. government’s cryptography department. Later, she became a prominent Chicago attorney. Her inquiries into ancient history culminated in the publication of several controversial books during the 1960s and ‘70s, including Pale Ink, The Wine Dark Sea, and Atlantis.
Mertz died in 1982, at the age of 73.
