About this Item
Stated First American Edition with Number Line to 1. As you can see from the photos, the covers are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. There is very little wear, a little crinkling at the spine ends, a thin dent off the front bottom edge and a crease just above the rear bottom corner (having no impact on the pages). The corners are in very good shape. The page edges are very clean. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book is in excellent condition. The pages are exceptionally clean. In scrolling through I didn't find any instances of soiling. I saw only one tiny crease at the tip of the bottom corner of one page. There are no markings. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There are three tiny stickers at the top right-hand corner of the first front end paper, a blank page. One of the stickers is a gold star. The other two are little planets, gold and green. I imagine the previous owner was inspired to represent the subject matter in such a way. There are no other attachments of any kind anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book which goes back a number of years. The black color just off the top edge of the front cover and spine (also a little at the bottom edge of the spine) has turned to a gray color, a little unusual, perhaps toning. There is slight wear at the spine ends. The jacket is very clean. It does have those vertical cloudy lines on both the front and rear cover. They are the result of the change in the texture of the cloth of the book, the smooth blue changing to a more textured black. The flaps of the jacket are a light blue. They are very clean and in solid shape. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all, but the previous owner penned a dark circle over part of the USA and CAN prices, the two numbers before the '.00' . It looks like the book was originally priced at $35.00. From the dust jacket: 'The Dimensions of Dreams summarizes and one encyclopedic volume the vast knowledge modern science has been able to amass about the world of dreams since Freud first published his groundbreaking Interpretation of Dreams in 1900. Freud's work, and that of Jung, provided the major impetus for many of the dream theories that have arisen this century, all trying to tease meaning from the often puzzling contents of dreams and to enlist them in the therapeutic process. Ole Vedfelt reviews in depth the large body of research about dreams that has found its way into the literature, from the work of Freud and Jung to that of many other important investigators, including Alfred Adler, Erich Fromm, Montague Ullman, Calvin Hall, and Medard Boss. Vedfelt also discusses dreamwork in gestalt therapy and psychodrama, and describes the results of modern laboratory investigations of sleep and dreaming. How dreams are affected by organic diseases and physical symptoms, the relationship between dreams and psychosis, parapsychological phenomena, esoteric dream understanding, and consciousness-expanding dreams are among the other subjects covered The Dimensions of Dreams is a unique and indispensable handbook for the professional, and compelling reading for the general public. About this title
In what has been called "the best general introduction to this fascinating subject" (Die Welt, Hamburg), The Dimensions of Dreams summarizes in one encyclopedic volume the vast knowledge modern science has been able to amass about the world of dreams since Freud first published his groundbreaking Interpretation of Dreams in 1900. Freud's work, and that of Jung, provided the major impetus for many of the dream theories that have arisen this century, all trying to tease meaning from the often puzzling contents of dreams and to enlist them in the therapeutic process. Vedfelt also discusses dreamwork in gestalt therapy and psychodrama, and describes the results of modern laboratory investigations of sleep and dreaming. Among the other subjects covered are dreams and psychosis, parapsychological phenomena, and how dreams are affected by organic diseases and physical symptoms. The Dimensions of Dreams is a unique and indispensable handbook for the professional, and compelling reading for the general public.
