About this title:

Synopsis: (Amadeus). This thorough revision of a classic handbook is designed primarily as a guide for students writing papers or theses on musical subjects, but is useful for anyone writing about music for publication. It deals with the mechanics of scholarly writing, citation and documentation, as well as the nuts and bolts of punctuation and abbreviation. But it is also a sensible guide to good writing. In this edition, Mark A. Radice has taken into account all the technological changes that have transformed writing and publishing while preserving Irvine's voice. He has also added a new section on incorporating music examples in a written text.

About the Author: "Mark A. Radice" is a Professor of Music History and Literature at the Ithaca College School of Music. He is also the curator of the Karel Husa Archive and Gallery for Contemporary Music at Ithaca College. He has published numerous articles on a wide range of historical music subjects in journals that include "Music Review" and "Musical Quarterly." In addition, he has published two books, "Opera in Context: Essays on Historical Staging from the Late Renaissance to the Time of Puccini" and "Irvine's Writing about Music," Third Edition. He is currently editing a collection of essays devoted to the life and works of the contemporary composer Karel Husa.
