About the Author: President Gordon B. Hinckley was ordained a set apart as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 12, 1995. He had previously served 14 years as a counselor in the First Presidency and 20 years in the Quorum of the Twelve. Born June 23, 1910, to Bryant S. and Ada Bitner Hinckley, he grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from the University of Utah in 1932, he accepted a mission call to the British Isles. He was employed upon his return as secretary to the Radio, Publicity and Mission Literature Committee of the Church and, except for a brief period during World War II, has worked as an employee or General Authority of the Church ever since. He married Marjorie Pay in 1937, and they have five children and 25 grandchildren.
