District Officers of Deputy Commissioners assisted in the collection of material. These Official records provide a wealth of material on all aspects of the regions covered, and include detailed information about the inhabitants, their way of life, habits, customs, religious rites and rituals. The Darjeeling district gazetteer was first published in 1907. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some water or damp staining along the top and bottom edges of both boards. The spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean with some damp marking and a little bubbling to the top 2" of the front and rear fixed endpapers. There is a previous owner's monogram stamp on the bottom corner of the front free endpaper. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and small pieces missing from the bottom of the spine. About 1 3/4" is missing from the top of the spine. There is a large tear that runs down part of the front spine edge and then across the spine and about 4" of the back of the wrapper. This tear and smaller ones at the bottom of the spine have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.
