ISBN10: 0710083793, ISBN13: 9780710083791, [publisher: Routledge and Kegan Paul, London] Hardcover First Edition First edition, first impression. Supposed to have been published in 1976, a pasted in note says 'Owing to production delays this book was published in 1977'. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of largely pale blue jacket, corners very slightly bruised, not price clipped (£6.50), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 316pp. Mycenaean Greece (c.1600 BC?- c.1100 BC) was a cultural period of Bronze Age Greece taking its name from the archaeological site of Mycenae in northeastern Argolis, in the Peloponnese of southern Greece. Athens, Pylos, Thebes, and Tiryns are also important sites of this period. The last phase of the Bronze Age in Ancient Greece, it is the historical setting of much ancient Greek literature and myth, including the epics of Homer. James Thomas Hooker (1931-91), was Reader in Greek at University College London. He mainly worked on the linguistic development of Greek from the Mycenaean to the Archaic level (Homer), but also on Mycenaean and Spartan history and culture. A classic text, quite scarce.
