New York, NY Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers(IEEE) 1994 Hard cover Very good. No dust jacket. Light corner and shelf wear to boards. Light foxing on page edges. Clean other than Harder's notes. Sewn binding. Cloth over boards. 268 p. Contains: Illustrations. Audience: General/trade. Inscribed by Edwin Harder, author of Chapter 6. The chapter also contains his errata and a typed note. The note has created light staining along the top and bottom edges of the pages, but I think the personal touch of the author is worth the slight damage to the book. The note reads: "An Apology. I am somewhat embarrassed by the three references to beating G.E. --the capacitor at Winchester, the HCB relay, and the carrier-pilot relay system. The uninitiated might conclude that we were antagonists. Nothing could be further from the truth. We were competitors, but we worked together harmoniously in the Institute committees to develop our industry and our profession. The situation was more like the game of football. Members of opposing teams may be good friends, or even brothers. Some of my best friends were in the General Electric Company. They no doubt won as many games as we did. Naturally the games that we won are the highlights described in the article. As I mentioned, a discovery or invention of great value to one's company provides a thrill comparable to winning a football game, especially one against a highly respected opponent."
