The frontispiece consists of a folding map of Concord, with the homes of R.W. Emerson and Nathl. Hawthorne highlighted (as well as Walden Pond). Fraying and light soil on cover, tear 3/4 of the way down on ffep, label pasted onto front pastedown, with a line through first owner's name and 2nd owner's name in pen, separation between just about all of the binding packets, penciled notes and underlining, pages tanned, still readable but one should be careful with it. Small octavo. v, 382, 15 (ads) pp. Illustrated with a two-page map of Concord. Forest green cloth gilt over beveled boards, topedge gilt. Binding with moderate general wear including two tiny tears at the crown, just about near fine. The interior, including the black coated endleaves, are fine.

This book is composed of extracts from Thoreau's journal. Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) was an American author, naturalist, abolitionist, and philosopher. Thoreau is best-known for his poems and essays. Many of his writings interweave themes of nature and philosophy.
