I learned a long time ago that some people would rather die than forgive. It's a strange truth, but forgiveness is a painful and difficult process. It's not something that happens overnight. It's an evolution of the heart.

[publisher: Macmillan and Co Ltd, London] Hardcover First Edition First edition, first impression. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, not price clipped (15s), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy for its age in unsunned jacket. 212pp. A satire on diplomatic life in the post war years. Her Majesty's Ambassador Sir Augustus Gore-Featherston deftly handles the problems and pressures in the Kingdom of Parasang. The ambassdor is aided too by his knowledge of the old Queen's part in removing obstacles, his belief in the engineer intelligence officer Parker, his know how with his staff and the English residents. Besides the tin pot dictator Chukah there is a sulky goddess whose propitiation for the needed rains lies in the old Queen's hands, and there is a wonderful clutch of incidents involving ambassadorial life, British stolidity and inscrutable eastern ways. Andrew Graham was a military attache in Phnom Penh, and it is apparently not hard to see parallels with the Cambodian royal family in this satire.
