Jonathan Sumption was a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. The authors state their firm belief that the search for equality is more than impractical and self-defeating: pursuit of it for its own sake is morally objectionable. Attempts to create equal societies have inevitably led to misery and poverty. Both book and dust jacket have been well looked after and are in fine/near fine condition. The cream coloured cloth-bound boards are bright, clean and unmarked and there are no scratches dents or bumps; all edges are straight, all corners sharp. The text block is square and tightly bound and all its edges are spotless. Internally, the pages other than the ffep (where there is a previous resale price and a note stating that the book is out of print, written in pencil) are clean and unmarked. The dust jacket is unmarked and retains its original crispness and gloss. However, it has been price-clipped, the colour on the spine panel has faded a little and there is a very small split at the top right corner where the internal flap folds into the book.
