The 12 case studies from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are based on presentations made at a conference in Malaysia, in 1998. Each of the contributions is followed by a summary of the main issues addressed during the subsequent discussions, and the book ends with three articles analysing the state-of-affairs of biodiversity conservation in the region in light of the 'new approach' taken by the conservation organisations. Conclusions and recommendations are made. The book forms a valuable contribution to the discussion of indigenous peoples' and protected areas.
