The catalogue includes the 430 manuscripts collected by Ranke himself and purchased by Syracuse University in 1887; the bibliographic, personal, and family material that accompanied the purchase; and Ranke and Graves family papers acquired since the original purchase. The present volume replaces a partial catalogue published in 1952. The manuscript materials catalogued here constitute a portion of Leopold von Ranke's private library, which also includes some 17,000 volumes of books and approximately 4,000 pamphlets. This library has fortunately been preserved as a discrete collection and historical artifact at Syracuse University. ..
