A & W Publishers, New York, Date: 1979. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. introduction by author. The text is illustrated with two inserts, of 22 pages each, of black-and-white photography. Black coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. Plaintext dustwrapper with black and yellow coloured titles to the front panel and red and black coloured titles to the back strip. In 1977 the world reeled in horror when 912 people were found dead in the African country of Guyana where the Reverend Jim Jones had taken his followers. In this book the author recounts her life, along with her husband and her children, as a member of the Peoples Temple for six years; and, how, when they finally defected they agitated for his church to be investigated. Why did they stay in the church, when in retrospect it was a cult rife with corruption, horror, sexual predation and child abuse? This book is an attempt to answer that very question. Softening of the back strip edges with a little rubbing of the book corners. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Rubbing of the dustwrapper edges and panels with fading of the back strip.
