His post war career was equally distinguished and throughout his 30 years in the RAF as a fighter pilot, staff officer, aide and Air Attache, Dennis never lost his nose for a good story or whimsical occurance, in most of which he himself was involved. From Prince Philip to Mikita Khruschev, from Lord Louis Mountbatten to Yuri Andropov, from King Abdullah of Jordan to Ian Smith of Rhodesia, from 'The Father of the RAF' Viscount Trenchard, to airman Bill Pope, not a person is mentioned but there is an individual story of them, or at least, a story recounted in person by them. Throughout, however, the reader will find warmth, respect and admiration for most of the characters, except where their colder personalities led them into darker corners under the influence of Oppressive regimes.
