One-piece black cloth binding, silver and red lettering on both spine and front panel. This 6-volume series is a project of the National Historical Society. Front endpaper is a photograph of the Union IX Corps embarking for the assault on Vicksburg, February. 1863; rear end pages are a map of the major battlefields of the Civil War. Exterior is pristine: it is square, exceptionally clean, free of corner bumps, edge dings and scrapes and scratches; head and heel of spine undamaged. The interior is nearly pristine: except for an inked name/address/date on the back side of the FFEP, the book is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. It has over 650 Civil War photographs. The book could almost pass for new. The jacket is in Near Fine condition. It is clean, free of chips and tears, with only tiny areas of color loss along the bottom edge and the head of the spine. The reverse side of the jacket has masking tape along the upper and lower edges, along both folds and along the spine--the tape has discolored the jacket (see photo).
