Guadalcanal was the first major American offensive confrontation with the Japanese in the Pacific war. Admiral Nimitz did not contemplate offensive action until 1943 when his plans were reversed when the Japanese landed a force on Tulagi and build an airfield on Guadalcanal. Guadalcanal was an easy invasion but after that they were hanging on by their fingernails until Admiral Halsey got in the action and drew blood on the highly vaunted Japanese military machine. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
