Davis was a journalist and novelist who wrote about money and business, technology, the Industrial Revolution and his beloved Brooklyn, often with wry or sardonic humor. He was a contributing editor, The New York Times Magazine, New York and The New Republic, among other publications. "Fleet Fire: Thomas Edison and the Pioneers of the Electric Revolution" chronicled the harnessing of electricity, the first of a planned series of books about the Industrial Revolution. Derived from a Kirkus review: This is an anecdotally rich, eminently entertaining tale of how fluorescent bulbs, boom boxes, and other fruits of electricity came into being.
