Lower corner tips crimped, else a very good plus, tight copy in brown boards with a black shelf back, spine lettering and front cover "bullet holes" in silver; in an attractive, multi-color jacket with art by Richard Powers. The jacket is near fine with only modest shelf wear. The spine remains unfaded (unusual) and the front flap retains the original price of $4.95. Stanford Whitmore first (and only) novel is set in the South Side of Chicago and features a jazz pianist. The autobiographical novel was evidently well-received and sold for a substantial amount ($50,000 or $80,000 depending on which source) to Twentieth Century-Fox. The film was never made. The author wrote no further novels only a few short stories before successfully concentrating on teleplays and movie scripts.
