ISBN10: 041377399X, ISBN13: 9780413773999, [publisher: Methuen Publishing Ltd, United Kingdom, London] Softcover Pelham Warner's How We Recovered the Ashes is an account of his captaincy of the England side during their tour of Australia of the 22nd Ashes series. England were the underdogs, with Australia having won the previous four series, and desperately needed to find a formula to offset Australian superiority. This was the first tour to be sponsored by the MCC, and the man they chose to lead England's efforts was Trinidad-born Middlesex opening batsman Pelham Plum Warner - an appointment that met considerable criticism in the newspapers of the time. Regardless, it proved a wise one and he captained England to a titanic Ashes victory for the first time in almost a decade. This title is a collectors edition re-publication of an out-of-print cricket classic to celebrate the centenary of the first MCC tour and a famous England victory. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
