The first eight chapters deal with events up to the creation of the Liturgical Commission in 1955. The remaining seven chapters, which bring the study down to 1980 are autobiographical, because that seemed to me to be the most convenient way of writing them. I must emphasize, it is my personal view of events. Others may see them rather differently. If that be the case, I hope that what I have written may provoke or inspire them into recording their own impressions. This will certainly help some future historian or liturgist to produce a much more objective account of this massive and complicated operation. Quite a lot of material already exists in print.
