Dutton Books, Date: 1995. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 6x2x9. A brief previous owner inscription. The publication of the letters of Ayn Rand is a cause for celebration, not only among the countless millions of Ayn Rand admirers the world over, but also among all those interested in the key political, philosophical, and artistic issues of our century. For there is no separation between Ayn Rand the vibrant, creative woman and Ayn Rand the intellectual dynamo, the rational thinker, who was also a passionately committed champion of individual freedom. These remarkable letters begin in 1926, with a note from the twenty-year-old Ayn Rand, newly arrived in Chicago from Soviet Russia, an impoverished unknown determined to realize the promise of the land of opportunity. They move through her struggles and successes as a screenwriter, a playwright, and a novelist, her sensational triumph as the author of The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and her eminence as founder and shaper of Objectivism, one of the most challenging philosophies of our time. They are written to such famed contemporaries as Cecil B. DeMille, Frank Lloyd Wright, H.L. Mencken, Alexander Kerensky, Barry Goldwater and Mickey Spillane. There are letters to philosophers, priests, publishers, and political columnists; to her beloved husband, Frank O' Connor; and to her intimate circle of friends and her growing legion of followers. Her letters range in tone from warm affection to icy fury, and in content from ...

ISBN10: 0525939466, ISBN13: 9780525939467, [publisher: Dutton Adult, New York, NY] Hardcover Inscribed and signed by editor Mike Berliner, to legendary comedian and social commentator, Mort Sahl, on the first free endpage. Unfortunately, the book and dust jacket are both water-stained. The stain appears in the lower left corner of the book's first few pages. After that, the pages are clean but there is wrinkling to the lower part of the pages until around halfway through the book. The stains reappear near the end of the book at the bottom of the pages. The water stains are also visible, though faint, on the lower left part of the spine and the lower right part of the book's back cover. The mustard yellow cloth on the book's exterior covers and spine is clean. The book's hinges are secure and the book does not suffer from spine lean. It's cover corners are not bumped. The dust jacket is not price-clipped. The water stains are not visible on the exterior (visible) parts of the jacket but there is staining on the inside. The glossy surfaces of the jacket appear clean with light rubbing. There is a light crease in the spine and light wear to edges but no holes, chips or tears. Book and dust jacket will be bubble-wrapped and shipped in a sturdy box to ensure safe transit.
